[give him a minute to type it all out. he's not nearly as quick with a keyboard as he is with pen and paper.]
The answer to the first element is widely debated. A common theory is that she is somewhat diminished and relies on her creatures to do much of her work for her. Many others find the notion insulting, however.
And the creatures themselves were at first fewm and exceedingly powerful, much like lesser gods. But they soon found that they were yet still too far beyond the mortals to aid them properly, and so each fractured themselves into many smaller pieces. This decreased their strength and invincibility, but brought them even closer to the humble creatures that they were meant to guide and protect.
Well, the closer you get to the flawed mortal realm, the more problems naturally arise. I'm sure you can imagine.
And, there is also the fact that as further generations of the guardians were born into the world, and found that they only existed to serve the purposes designed for them, some of them didn't take kindly to the fact.
Being nearer to mortals, they were then able to reproduce and spread across the land, yes.
And they are still around. They've become very good at hiding, however. According to mankind, they are merely legend, and this belief suits them just fine, for the most part.
Let me amend my statement-- they hid in plain sight. So, they continued to help, without mankind knowing that it was them.
Though, there were still those who disagreed with the notion of hiding. Especially when a large faction of the guardians left the land entirely, believing their own actions had caused more harm than good, and left many completely defenseless because of their own perceived guilt.
It's odd. I've always believed my own world's religion was flawed. I thought anything else would be better. But something like that... I'm not sure if it's better or worse.
I suppose that must sound awfully childish. I'm just not certain how I feel about the idea of guardians leaving. It's too human.
I laughed a lot gfdhjk THOUGH HE SHOULD TOTALLY STEAL ROBIN'S STORY TOO
Flattering, but optimistic. I fear the most anyone thinks of me is as an idiot and my crew largely sees me as an annoyance. Not that I can blame them after what happened but it makes friendship rather difficult.
I did some impromptu surgery on my neck. I was curious. I wanted to test the augment. And to my credit, I went fairly deep. Though they still had to come patch me up. I look at it as team bonding.

It was not a perfect system.
