[there's a delay before he answers, but he's much less inclined to care about the fact that he's currently dozing in his nest than he might have otherwise, considering what their last interaction had been. this isn't a terribly distant leap from that. so, after that little hesitation, she gets a sleepy sounding "Come in," and he doesn't bother getting up to great her.
his 'office' is really just a glorified bedroom, with a criminally comfortable-looking nest of blankets and pillows covering what must have originally been a bed, taking up the majority of the room. and he's mostly buried in the middle of it, only lifting his head enough to peer over at her when she enters.]
[The state of his office is completely unsurprising. Fitting, actually. Though it's not what she would have said was in here, now that she sees it, the idea of it looking any other way seems antithetical to Tek's being.]
I'm sorry! I didn't mean to wake you... I can come back at another time, if that's better.
Yes... because I'm obviously in the middle of some very important work...
[--as he stretches out and lazily slumps over onto his side. give him a moment, and he'll eventually fold his arms in again and tuck them under his head. she's not interrupting his rest at all. he looks like he could drop right back into dozing with her standing there, if he really wanted.]
I need to tell you something and... I can't say if you'll be too happy about it, but you ought to know either way.
[There's a pause, not on account of nerves - she's very certain she should tell him this - but to give him a moment to perhaps wake a little more before she plunges in.]
I know that you're a dragon. For my part, it doesn't change anything about our relationship, and I'm certainly not going to mention it to anyone else. [Was there a slight edge in her voice as she said that last bit? Most definitely.] I just hope it doesn't change anything for you either.
[the pause allowing him to pull himself together into a more awake and ready state is appreciated. it's just enough of a warning to let him brace himself a little bit.
he props himself up on his elbows at the lull, and slowly sits all the way up as she finishes her statement. by the time she's done, he's awake and composed... and he doesn't bother with even a trace of a smile.
it's a more honest expression, really. he doesn't seem anything like obviously upset--only more reptilian. nothing but calm and cautious. he forgets some of his subtle warm tricks to seem more human, when she lays out the truth of his identity like that.]
If you are suggesting that I have been gossiping and asking questions about you, I have not. I discovered this information quite unintentionally and as I do not want to foster any sort of mistrust between us, I wanted to tell you what I knew. That is all.
I was told in a private, confidential conversation - one that will remain private - that you were the one who was... [Unconsciously, her jawline hardens as she thinks of what happened on Mor] attacked. I am certain it is not widely known in the fleet, or surely you would have been exposed by now.
[With an angry frown, she nods.] I didn't know what was going on at the time or...
[Or what? You'd have single-handedly stopped a mob of strangers fueled by fear from killing him? The thing is, she sure as hell would have tried, however futile and dangerous of an endeavor it would have been.
She kneels, bringing herself eye level with him.]
What they did to you was heinous and I know there's not much that I can say that will help, but for whatever little it's worth, I'm sorry.
[he cants his head a little to the side, a bit like a bird. as if he could see through right to the truth behind her words--reading the details of her expression most likely.]
...Were they personally involved in the attack, or had they heard from someone else? At least give me that much.
[Hesitation and an internal sigh. She knew coming here that this would be an issue. As angry as she is with Finrod, he did come to her in confidence and she doesn't want to betray that. However, Tek at the least deserves to know that this information isn't floating around freely in the fleet.]
[She is relieved by the visible release of some of his tension, while understanding that the paranoia probably won't entirely go away. How could it? Having to live among people who killed you... she can't even begin to imagine what that is like. But she wants him to know he's not alone. So she reaches out one hand and just. Lightly rests the tips of her fingers on his forearm.]
Of course I would. But I promise, I haven't heard or seen anyone making any connections between you and what happened on Mor. And the person who came to me it was... well, it was more of a confession. Nothing malicious. I sincerely doubt they will say anything to anyone else about it.
