[he drums his fingers on his arm as she misses the point, and half of his attention is still on their enemy's retreat. His expression remains the same, though.]
You still don't know me very well, then. I smile when I'm in a bad mood.
[She won't argue that she doesn't know Tek well because it's entirely likely she never will. He's about as hard to follow as Sera and Cole could be, but at least with them she had the added benefit of knowing they liked her enough to not try to kill her. It's always a toss up with Tek.]
That's not what I meant. No commander feels good when their army has just been attacked, and this is similar enough.
[Her tone is light, but her hands are clenched into fists at her sides. She doesn't like losing, doesn't like sneak attacks, and would very much like a shot at revenge, preferably sometime soon.]
[there's a small, veiled glance in her direction when she makes that comparison. with all of the flaunting he does of his title and claiming the ship to entirely be his own... it is still a little jarring to hear himself included in that sort of talk, even if the illustration is a very loose one. maybe it's just the fact that she is the one saying it that strikes him.
either way, he moves on quickly, and shrugs.]
I decided that I'm done being bored. For the time being.
[That doesn't sound particularly helpful, not when Tek has shown since her arrival that his duties as a captain weren't all that important to him, but there isn't much she can do about it. Jove has no desire to lecture, though, so she only turns to look outside again.]
At least we had two people to shoot back this time, I suppose.
[again, he doesn't really answer. instead, he's apparently abruptly done with looking at the nebula and whatever is hiding beyond it--turning around with a sigh that makes it sound as if he hasn't spent the majority of the last few weeks sleeping.
he leans his back against the window and folds his arms.]
I don't want to think about what comes next. I'm sick of wondering.
[he lifts an eyebrow in her direction, while he tries to decide whether or not he's offended by her sharing her thoughts on what attitudes that captains should and should not have.]
Well, get caught by surprise by them each time. The Inquisition had spies that could keep that sort of thing from happening to us, but here? The best we could do is work out some system where people take the shuttles out as far as they can to patrol the perimeter of the ships and report back if they see anything suspicious. It's not exactly ideal, but it would at least keep us prepared.
[She's hardly in charge of the Inquisition's forces, that's Cullen's job, but she'd paid attention to his plans. She'd had a lot of time to learn from him and from Bull's Chargers how best to organize a battle, so why not use that now?]
It might be helpful if the ships all stayed close together, too. That way we could circle up when the attacks came so we couldn't be surrounded and could attack from all directions ourselves.

[--to finally answer her original question.]

That's hardly the kind of attitude a captain should be keeping to. We should be planning ahead.
no subject
...Does that imply that you have a suggestion?
